Just before the alcohol-induced stupor overcame me, I noticed this television advertisement, and then this.
To quote Lily Tomlin: No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up.

ITunes and Lemmings
After three hours of fiddling, adjusting, and restarting, I have this to say: Itunes is one of the most counter-intuitive pieces of crap on my machine (a PC). This software does not encourage me to buy Apple. Change settings...wait...no effect. Delete everything on the Ipod, reload software, choose auto update...nothing happens. Update library...nothing happens. Do it all manually, something finally happens. Well, that was a waste of time.
So much for the vaunted Apple ease of use.

We Are Saved!
This stupendous news from Maclean's editor/publisher Ken Whyte (stolen from Antonia Zerbisias):
"Barbara Amiel returns to Maclean’s as a fortnightly contributor. She was a popular columnist at the magazine from 1977 to 2004. A bestselling author and former editor of the Toronto Sun, she has also written for the Times of London and the Daily Telegraph, winning a British Press Award for commentary in 1987.
Linda Frum joins the magazine as a feature interviewer. She was a columnist for the National Post from 1998 to 2001, and her work has appeared in most major Canadian publications. For the last two years she has devoted her time to volunteer community work. She is currently the Chair of the 2006 United Jewish Appeal's Women's Campaign."
And the sun shines again. Surely these appointments, combined with the publishing of Peter C. Newman's new book, are signalling the dawn of a new age of Canadian literature, and journalism. 'Tis a good time to be alive.

Golf vs. Tennis
Slate has an interesting article on the continued decline of tennis vs. the ongoing ascendancy of golf.
Golf vs. Tennis - How one country club sport defeated the other.

Drunk? Stupid? Both?
I just can't see getting this worked up over a football game. This guy must be a treat at little kids' soccer games.
