Science Learns What Melissa Manchester Always Knew

Don't cry out loud:

"Contrary to popular notions about what is normal or healthy, new research has found that it is okay not to express one's thoughts and feelings after experiencing a collective trauma, such as a school shooting or terrorist attack."

Hah! Now if they could duplicate the results for personal stuff, then I would be sitting pretty. Well, stewing, but at least I would feel vindicated. And as honshui always says, "Don't pick at open wounds. Let them scab over. Let them scar. But don't pick at it so that it never scars". Words I try to live by.

The study, "Expressing thoughts and feelings following a collective trauma: Immediate responses to 9/11 predict negative outcomes in a national sample" will be published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. But until then, consider this prescient musical interpretation of the study from way back in 1979:

Playing To An Audience of One

A cool song for a hot day. And an inside joke that only honshui will get. Now that is how you get the hits.

Honey? Could You Bring Me a Beer and the Ether?

Every time I drink a Heineken, I think of Frank, and what he would say.

Dear Paul, Fuck You and Your Honour

Turns out that bug-fuck crazy Paul Bernardo doesn't like being called a crazy liar (click on the video link to hear the nonsense). Sure he made some mistakes, but can't we just move forward? He is a human being and is only trying to help. You can call him a killer and a psycho if you need the law and order p.r., but don't call him a liar. That isn't helping.

I guess if he can watch tv, maybe he can read blogs too. So Paul, yoo-hoo! Mr. Teale? Yeah, over here.

Fuck you and your sanctimonious attitude. You are a stain on our species.

Quote of the Day from Demonbaby

Demonbaby expounding on The Garden of Eden:

"How about ass-to-mouth? I really just can't see it being called 'Paradise' if there's no ass-to-mouth."

And can Adam and Eve be played by Peter North and Chasey Lain?

Works for me.

Drunk in Ontario: Religion Causes Cancer

Religion causes cancer? Don't ask me, take it up with fellow Londoner, Father Shaggy.

Untenable Philosophies

What really bothers me, is that I seem to be running through life like it is just a demo.

Summer Breeze; Or, Even My Daydreams Are Meta

How to tie this gossamer strand of mental flotsam together...

Of late, I have been thinking about two views on parenting and fatherhood. The Rev has this short, but touching and on-point, post about life, death, fish, and Harry Nilsson. And then life-long friend honshui sent me this cartoon from the Pearls and Swine oeuvre. And by the way, both of you have anniversaries soon, so get to steppin'. To the jewelers.

Leaning back in my camp chair (hey, it should get used at some point), I surveyed my blissful urban reality.

And what song is suddenly, and wonderfully, playing on my cheap-ass mp3 player?

Glad you asked:

Sweet days of summer indeed. Did I mention that I live in world I didn't live in?

Sandbagged! Fine, Hoisted By My Own Petard.

So I am in a bar with this guy. A good guy. Quiet, but intense. You know the type; plays it close to the chest. Plays it so close that you feel the need to fill in the blanks and spaces with mindless chatter. And you know this chatter only makes you look dumber and more desperate to seem cool. So you talk more to cover your growing sense of having blown it.

Time to play it cool, talk music over a draft beer and regain some composure. So far so good. All casual like you ask "What is that cool button there" referring to a nifty little graphic nickel on his lapel.

And time slows down. The eyebrow goes up and he says "Bauhaus doing Ziggy Stardust". The wind comes out of your sails like a schooner hitting the doldrums with but half a barrel of fresh water in reserve. You were supposed to know this. You said you were a fan.

What is the word the kids use? Oh yeah, pwn3d. Pwn3d hard.

So that you avoid this ignominious defeat...
