The editorial in the newest Maclean's (April 11, 2011) surely must be an April Fool's joke. Here are some choice bits about why we should just suck it up and vote Conservative:
Haper..."can't very well be both a micromanaging power freak and a secret puritan populist".
Really? Those two things are mutually exclusive? Really?
So we shouldn't worry about his fundie ties. What about the economy? Our EI is "OECD average for the short-term unemployed and well below average for the long-term". Well hooray for us! It's nice to know we kick people when they're down. Don't fret, we "rank among the "worst" in the OECD's index of employment protection regulations, meaning that Canadians can be fired or laid off more easily than almost anyone else". Cheer up buttercup, because Canada scores "low in product regulation" too. According to the unnamed editors, it's all Paul Martin's fault. So buck up and vote Conservative, because you are already soaking in it.
