"Love Without Anger" is from Devo's fourth album, "The New Tradiontionalists", released in 1981. While not a chart hit (it was not released as a single) the song stands out on an album of solid tracks. Many of the songs on "The New Traditionalists" are cleverly cynical and poke fun at new fans ("Through Being Cool") and the "shining city on the hill" positivity of a Ronald Reagan America ("Beautiful World"). "Love Without Anger", with its pop sound, (almost literally) is far more subtle, upsetting, and stark than anything else on the album. Both the song and the video are examples of confident artists, not afraid to make you say "What the hell just happened". It's my favourite Devo video by a far sight.
Keep an eye out for Bob Dobbs.
